Even as floodwaters continued to recede from three districts in Assam today, one more people died in the deluge, taking the death count in the state to Ten, on Wednesday.

According to the ASDMA, floodwaters have started receding since May 28 as the rains have lessened or stopped altogether in several parts of the state. As on today, 1,44,322 persons across the 4 districts of Goalpara, Nagaon, Hojai, and Cachar are still affected by the floods. Goalpara remains the worst-hit district with 1,16,049 persons still feeling the adverse effects of the floods.

As the locals left relief shelters to go home, the number of relief shelter inmates has reduced to 2,913. Meanwhile, 22,717 hectares of croplands in the districts of Goalpara, Nagaon, and Hojai are still inundated under floodwaters.

District administrations are running 27 relief camps in Goalpara and in Hojai, where a total of 7,299 people have taken shelter, the bulletin said.
