Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that the situation in Guwahati was critical and the state government may have to impose another lockdown in the city.

"In the next 15 days, we will collect 50,000 samples in Guwahati city so that we can break the chain of cases. For the people who do not wish to give their samples in the hospitals, we will set up 12 testing centres from 9 am onwards on June 16", Sarma said.

The Assam government has also decided to write to ministry of Civil aviation to cap the number of incoming flight to Guwahati to 25 in a day for proper maintenance of social distancing. Presently,Over 27 flights are coming to the city.

Dr sarma reaveled that Guwahati has 25 COVID-19 positive cases which do not have travel history.
“For these cases source is yet to be known. We are suspecting that these cases are mostly from areas where go downs are located and loading and unloading of goods takes place,we will surveil the areas petrol depots, parking spots, dhabas, godowns, etc."

Dr sarma also warned that the state might witness spike in number of cases as 25,000 people from Kerala and two trains from Bengaluru will also come to the state.

Currently assam has reported 3900 covid19 cases, out of which 1805 patients have been discharged from the hospitals.
