The Gauhati University & Cotton University  hostels have been taken over by the Kamrup (M) district administration to be used as a quarantine centre.

due to the rising number of Covid19 positive cases in the state the kamrup(M) district administration realese a notice to convert the hostals to institutional quarentine centre.and the authorities have asked the students to vacate the hostel premises within 24 hours, giving rise to panic. As per an order issued by the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissoner Biswajit Pegu, this has been done "for accommodating interstate passengers coming from outside Assam.The management of the institutions have been asked to make available all the vacant rooms of the building premises by Monday evening".


According to reports, the Government is trying to make around 70-80 quarantine centres in the city. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said around 15 lakh people would return to Assam. Reportedly, Guwahati alone is to have around 80-85 quarantine centres apart from the hotels that are already being occupied.
