The Eco Club of Gauhati University sent a memorandum to Prime Minister shri Narendra Modi for conservation of Dehing Patkai
The Eco Club of Gauhati University sent a memorandum to Prime Minister shri Narendra Modi for conservation of Dehing Patkai and take strict action against illegal coal mining in the region, on Thursday.
The Eco Club stated that the recent decision of the National Board of Wildlife (NBWL) to permit Coal India Ltd. to carry out mining activities at the Saleki region of Dehing Patkai Rainforest would destroy its rich bio diversity and change the ecological balance.
"This region is an Asiatic Bio Diversity hotspot and home to many endangered flora and fauna. The area has been exploited for a long time and has already faced a lot of destruction," stated the Eco Club.
The club demanded to investigate the illegal coal mining activities in the area. Further, it requested the PM to stop all legal and illegal mining activities in the area.
