Manipur to ban use polythene bags for saplings


IMPHAL : manipur Forest and Environment Minister Thounaojam Shy amkumar on Wednesday said that from next year there will be a total ban on the use of polythene bags for plant/tree saplings.”From next year plastics will be replaced by bio-degradable material for making slplings in the nurseries under the Forest department”, he stated.

Shyamkumar said the move follows a circular from the Ministry of Environment, Foreats and Climtte Change (MoEFCC), directing all the State Governments to ensure any further use of polythene bags in the nurseriesis banned.The Forest officials are instructed to ensure nurseries under them go plasticfree from the next planting season and directed the Forest departments to explore alternatives to raise seedlings, he informed.
