Tezpur: Massive security build up in the Cultural Town, Tezpur hundreds of protesters took to streets in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) here even as the district observed total shut down following the Assam bandh called by several ethnic organisations against the controversial Bill.
The protesters came out spontaneously from various parts of the Tezpur including rural areas and staged demonstration against the contentious Bill. The protesters resorted to burning of tyres and effigies of BJP leaders on almost all roads including highways.
All Assam Students Union took out rally with banners and placards along with a public address system and made their way through in the jamugurihat town.Similar protests were also organized in Tezpur University campus, Parua charali, Tezpur Town and Gohpur.
However the Section 144 Crpc imposed in the entire district of sonitpur on 09 December by the district magistrate and will remain in force until further order to control the law and order in the district.
The 12 hour Bandh affected normal life in the verious areas of Sonitpur.All Commercial establishments and financial institutions also remained shut.
